The Air Support Unit conducts time/distance calculations on major roads in York Region while working in conjunction with the Traffic Enforcement Unit and District COR Units. AIR2 identifies, and directs ground officers to apprehend aggressive drivers.

Aircraft Patrol Sign
Using a stopwatch, the Police Flight Observer, times a vehicle as it passes through a set of highway markers. If the vehicle is speeding, the flight observer will direct officers on the ground to that vehicle. This system allows enforcement to be conducted areas where traditional methods are less effective.Aircraft Enforcement is high profile, the visual combination of the aircraft, the posted signs and ground enforcement changes driver behaviour causing a greater compliance with the posted speed limit.
Currently the speed enforcement program is conducted on Highway #9, Highway #7, Highway #27, Keele Street and Green Lane. More roadways will be added pursuant to this program.
